Louie’s Trust is a Sunderland-based charity dedicated to supporting families when their child is in hospital. When a child becomes poorly and in need of hospital care, life changes in an instant. Parents are thrown into an overwhelming new reality, trying to balance hospital stays with work, home life, and financial pressures. Many are forced to choose between staying by their child’s bedside or keeping up with bills.
Founded in 2023 by Addison and Shannon Taylor, Louie’s Trust was created after they experienced these challenges firsthand with their son, Louie. During his six-month journey in and out of the hospital, they saw how difficult it was to manage everyday responsibilities while staying by his side. Determined to help other families facing the same struggles, they set up Louie’s Trust to provide essential items, financial assistance, and emotional support. The charity’s mission is to ease the burden on parents so they can focus on their children, giving them the best possible experience and a sense of normality, even in hospital.
‘We know what it’s like to feel lost, exhausted, and unsure where to turn. No parent should have to face these struggles alone. That’s why we founded Louie’s Trust, to give families the support we wish we had.” Addison & Shannon Taylor, Founders.
Louie’s Trust provides:
- Essential Items – Clothing, toiletries, parent care packs, and comforting toys to make hospital stays feel a little more like home.
- Financial Assistance – Grants, food vouchers, and help with travel and parking costs to ease financial stress.
- Emotional & Practical Support – Information guides, practical tips, and access to further support services to help families navigate hospital life.
As a Sunderland-based charity, the Sunderland City Runs hold a special place in Louie’s Trust’s journey. Last year, it was the first sporting event the charity participated in, marking the beginning of its mission to raise awareness and vital funds for families in need. Since then, the support received has been incredible, raising over £19,000 to date.
Returning this year as a supporting charity is a huge milestone, not just for the charity but for those behind it. It’s a reflection of how far Louie’s Trust has come, the generosity of its supporters, and the difference being made in the lives of families across the North East.
“Being part of the Sunderland City Runs again is something really special to us. Last year, it was our first ever event, and we never imagined how much support we’d receive. To be returning this time as a charity partner and part of the event village is a huge moment for Louie’s Trust. We can’t wait to meet more people, share our mission, and celebrate this milestone with the people of a community we are proud to be a part of.” Addison and Shannon Taylor, Founders.
Seeing the people of Sunderland come together to support so many great causes is truly special, and Louie’s Trust is excited to be part of it once again. The atmosphere at last year’s event village was unforgettable, and the team looks forward to being back, raising awareness, and making an even bigger impact.
